
Matthew Gonzales is a dedicated community leader and public policy advocate. He is the Executive Director-Southwest for both the Consumer Energy Alliance and HBW Resources. Additionally, he serves as the Vice Chairman for the National Hispanic Energy Council.
Matthew has nearly two decades of experience as a natural resources and public policy advisor, with expertise in developing successful procedural and legislative strategies that get clients the advocacy results they want. He has led government affairs and local advocacy efforts for top organizations in agriculture, business, and energy in New Mexico. Matthew oversees campaigns and policy initiatives in Santa Fe, Denver, Phoenix, Salt Lake City, and tribal capitals across the West. He is committed to ensuring that rural and tribal communities, historically underrepresented in energy, environment, and natural resource policy discussions, have a meaningful seat at the table.
Matthew is an Air Force veteran who served overseas in support of Operations Iraqi Freedom and Enduring Freedom. He is the former Mayor and Council Member for the Village of Cimarron, and he has served on the Cimarron Municipal Schools' Board of Education. He is a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and a Life Member of VFW Post 1793. Matthew is the proud father of two daughters, Aspen (20) and Eva (17). He has a home in the Sangre De Cristo Mountains of Northeast New Mexico where he spends his free time fly fishing and exploring with his rescue pit bull, India.
