Speaker Bio

As CEO and co-founder of WaHa, I have focused on innovating in the energy sector, particularly in technologies that significantly enhance energy efficiency for cooling and the atmospheric extraction and delivery of pure water. Our team's efforts have been instrumental in developing a platform that promises a 50% improvement in air conditioning energy efficiency and shatter the constraints of status quo atmospheric water generation systems, significantly reducing carbon impact. Work has begun under a CRADA with the DOE and LBL to help commercialize an HVAC solution, and it is well underway with two major water utilities in the Middle East to develop and implement a water-as-a-service delivery model.

Previously, I was CEO and co-founder of Ice Energy, which pioneered the development of a behind-the-meter thermal energy storage solution and the energy storage market. The Company developed a novel business model selling offset energy and capacity value streams of energy storage to Southern California electric utilities under long-term agreements. Our drafting and securing the passage of landmark energy storage legislation in California, AB 2514, facilitated this and allowed utilities to incorporate large-scale energy storage systems into their rate base to address renewable energy resources' intermittent and variable nature.

Before that, I co-founded and managed a Calpine Energy-funded energy start-up that developed innovative inside-the-fence energy solutions for 24/7 mission-critical computing facilities. I also founded and directed Structured Capital Management, a northern California boutique investment bank specializing in monetizing stranded balance sheet assets and complex financial asset securitizations. I am a former principal of Alex Brown & Sons and a former managing director of Bear, Stearns, and Co., both former NYSE companies. I began my career as a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission staff attorney in Washington, D.C.

My commitment extends beyond the corporate realm as a long-standing member of the National Executive Board at Boy Scouts of America, where we've championed diversity and inclusion. We've successfully broadened our reach to non-legacy constituencies, developing materials that resonate across cultural lines, including Spanish language resources, which align with my proficiency in multiple languages and dedication to community empowerment.
