Nelson Reyneri Jr. is Director of Strategic Alliances & Policy at NRG Energy, where he leads engagement across policymakers, regulators, market operators, and strategic partners to strengthen competitive electricity markets and advance customer-focused innovation.
He brings more than two decades of leadership experience across the energy sector, government, and governance roles. Prior to joining NRG, Nelson served as a Principal in Point B’s Environmental, Social, and Governance practice and was part of the senior leadership team at Liberty Power, where he helped scale the company into a billion-dollar enterprise and expand structured energy solutions to more than 100 Fortune 500 clients.
His public service includes senior roles in the Clinton Administration, including Chief of Staff at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) and Special Assistant to the Deputy Chief of Staff to President Clinton. In 2016, President Barack Obama nominated him to serve on OPIC’s Board of Directors.
Nelson is Immediate Past Chair of the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Vice Chair of Seattle Credit Union, and serves on the boards of the National Utilities Diversity Council and Groundswell. In 2024, he was named a “Director of the Year” by the Puget Sound Business Journal.
He holds an MBA from Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management, an MPA from Harvard Kennedy School, and a BA, summa cum laude, from Boston University.
