Hugo Gutierrez was appointed government and external affairs manager at Coterra Energy in March 2025. He is responsible for policy, lobbying, and political engagement in New Mexico and Texas.

Prior to joining Coterra, Gutierrez spent 25 years at Marathon Oil Corporation, where he led the company’s lobbying and political engagement in New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, and Washington, D.C. Before joining Marathon, he served as chief of staff for two South Texas legislators in the Texas House of Representatives.

Gutierrez holds a bachelor’s degree in mass communication from Texas State University and is a native of McAllen, Texas, in the Lower Rio Grande Valley.
