Consul General, Rafael Laveaga assumed his current assignment on August 1st, 2025. He has held a wide range of positions in Mexico’s public sector, particularly in the areas of national security, foreign policy and public affairs.
Within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he has served as Deputy Director General for Citizen Services and Consular Affairs; Chief of Staff to the Undersecretary for Latin America and the Caribbean; Communications Director at the Embassy of Mexico in Washington, D.C.; Head of Political Affairs at the Embassy of Mexico in Spain; Deputy Consul General of Mexico in San Diego; and Head of the Consular Section at the Embassy of Mexico in the United States of America.
He is the author of Invisible Architects of the Mexico–United States Relationship, a book featuring a series of interviews with Mexico’s Ambassadors to Washington from 1970 to 2000.
